Jigsaw – An Indispensable Power Tool

Coming up with your own set of power tools is something that would be really worthwhile. And one of the tools that you should have in that collection is the jigsaw. This tool used to be called the scroll saw. It is used to make straight cuts on wood materials. It will also allow you to cut custom shapes and stenciled designs on wood. However, the tools is so lightweight that you may find it quite difficult to cut straight lines with it.

The jigsaw is usually corded when sold in the market. There is also a battery-operated model. The advantage of this baby is you are able to change the blades to let you cut through other materials aside from wood. The tool is generally used for wood materials. However, it can be used for other materials with the use of specific blades from the set.

You can use the jigsaw to cut materials up to an inch and a half thick. If used on thicker material or when forced to cut a sharp curve, the blades may bend or break. But you don’t have to worry if this happens. The blades can be replaced for a very affordable price. You may easily detach the broken blade and replace them. Just make sure that the jigsaw does not overheat nor is it forced to cut through thick materials quickly.

Another thing to remember is that the recip blade is pulled upward to cut. And therefore, all materials that you are going to cut with this blade should be facing down to avoid getting some chips on the finished surface. The tool will also have a bevel function equipped with it that will allow the tool to cut angles.

The jigsaw is relatively inexpensive with prices as low as forty dollars. The price increases depending on the warranties, features, brand, power and quality. It is really inexpensive compared to the other power tools that you might be using.

Most jigsaws have variable speed options, tool free bevel adjustment, quick release for the changing of blades and others. Some jigsaws have dust collectors or blade storage compartments that offer more convenience for you. Make sure that you keep your tool clean safe for you to be able to use it for a long time.

Goggles and gloves are important when using this tool. Do not use the tool with objects thicker than the inch and a half limit. This will deliver poor results and could damage the blade. It is also best to take your time when ti come to cutting ot ensure accuracy and precision in the cut you are making.

There are many fine jigsaws on the market to choose from, consider our picks, the Hitachi CJ18DL or DeWalt DW331 jigsaw.
