Keep Your Family and Home Safe With A Radon Monitor

Radon is a gas that has no color, no taste, and no odor. It exists in nature, and is emitted when uranium breaks down in soil. You’ll find it inside and outside, in low concentrations. It gets into your home from outside via small cracks and holes in foundations, crawlspaces and slabs.Radon gas detector

Can radon be dangerous?

That is possible. According to the EPA, radon has been determined to be the second highest cause of lung cancer in the US. The risk is increased when the level of radon increases. The risk of lung cancer is increased by smoking. Radon detection and handling is very important if you are a smoker.Radon gas test

What level of radon is dangerous?

The EPA states that any levels greater than or equal to 4 picocuries or pCi per liter must be repaired. A “curie” is the standard unit of measure for the intensity of radioactivity in a radioactive material.

It’s name after french scientists Marie and Pierre Curie. A “picocurie” is one trillionth of a curie.

To find out how much radon is in my home, what should I do?

Your house’s radon levels can only be found out by a thorough radon test. You can hire someone or you could do a home test. Unfortunately, there is no other way to find out this information.

What do I do if I find that I have high levels of radon in my house?

On EPA recommendation, if the radon level in your home is 4 pCi per liter or more, you should have a “radon mitigation system”. This is a method by which radon levels are reduced. This is produced by finding one or many suction points, then putting a pipe into a concrete floor slab. All the pipes are connected to a fan. The fan draws out the radon gas and sends it outside. Just find a radon contractor in your area who can do this for you. It generally costs between $1000-$2500 and takes one to two days to install.
