The Different Types of Laser Levels
1) Plumb and Dot laser Levels. These lasers produce one or multiple dots of reference when you aim them at a surface. They are designed to provide you with a reference point to make sure the area is level.
2) Laser Line Levels emit a laser line that is level to the surface they are placed on. Generally, these instruments will emit a line in a single direction. They are usually used indoors and usually hand-held and small. Or they can be mounted on a level surface such as a ladder or desk which leaves the operator with free hands for work.
3) Rotary Level Lasers send out a a single laser beam that rotates. This will show a laser line that completely circles the area instead of being directed only at a small area. These ,types of instruments are bulky and awkward. They need a tripod which is usually part of the package. They are set up in the middle of the area being checked.
Automatic or Self Leveling Lasers
The types above emit their laser light in different ways but you can also choose an instrument which self, or automatically levels. The majority of professional surveyors choose self leveling lasers as they save time on the job. These types, if knocked or jarred by accident will automatically readjust to the proper level saving the surveyor the time required to do the job himself. The operator can work at some distance from the instrument so it is ideal for working alone.
