The Truth About Carpet Care
There are a number of myths you may have heard about carpet cleaning and how to do it. We will try and dispel some of those myths and give you more information about what to look for in a carpet cleaning company. You may have heard your friends or family saying that you should wit to have your carpet cleaned the first time, because it will never look the same again. This simply isn’t true. As long as you hire a trained professional you carpet should look better each time it gets cleaned. Waiting will only cause a health hazard and make the job harder when you do decide to get it done.
If you have heard that carpet cleaning shrinks your carpet, you may be right. The only way that this can happen is if your carpet is left extrememly wet. Be sure to check the dampness of your carpet before the cleaners leave. If you take this easy step you can ensure that your carpet will not shrink.
One myth that we tend to come across quite a bit is the one that says regularly vacuuming your carpet will deteriorate the fibres in your carpet. Studies have shown that vacuuming a carpet up to four times a week does does not do anymore damage then only vacuuming a carpet twice a month. It is important for your health and the health of the carpet to get up dust and dirt. Don’t be afraid to vacuum your carpet often.
If you have heard a myth that says you should only get your carpet cleaned when it has been stained. This is also an untrue myth. You should in fact, have your carpet cleaned at least once a year. This will prevent any build up of deep down dirt from accumulating. It helps to keep your carpet clean over time and to maintain a healthy environment in your home.
Just because you may have been told that your carpet has a built in stain resistor does not mean that you shouldn’t have your carpet cleaned regularly. An all around carpet cleaning is a good way of maintaining an investment like a carpet. You cannot clean a carpet too much. The more often that a carpet gets a good thorough cleaning the longer it will last and the more you will get out of your initial investment.
If you believe, as many do, that carpet cleaning will ruin your stain resistance then you should know that foot traffic is much more likely to wear off the stain resistance in your carpet. You should however have the stain resistor re-applied about every third time you have your carpet cleaned. A professional carpet cleaner will be able to do this quite easily.
It may be tempting to buy a cheaper carpet cleaner from a grocery or hardware store. Do not fall into this trap. A store bought carpet cleaner applied the wrong way can easily leave your carpet in worse shape than when you started. It might seem like something that is easy to do, but when dealing with harsh chemicals it is better to leave it to a professional, especially if you want to maintain the quality of your carpet.
If you have a carpet cleaner at home already and plan to use that for regular carpet cleaning, it is not a bad idea, but it is important to occasionally have your carpet cleaned professionally. Home machines do not have the suction power that professional machines have. Home machines are good for spot cleaning, but when it comes to keeping your carpet cleaned hire a professional to get the job done right.
